Te Ara Reo wiki 7 [wāhanga o te rā/ parts of the day]

Our aim is to use these descriptions of the natural world in our everyday kōrero instead of using time measurements.  Eg: I oho aku tamariki i te Ata hāpara (My kids woke up at dawn).

Atapō / Before Dawn

Ata Hāpara / Sunrise/Dawn/ Colours the sky/ Breath of Morning…

Awatea / Daylight (River of white light)

Atatū / Just after sunrise

Awatea / Daybreak (Yes, two different Awatea)

Ata / Morning

Poupoutanga o te rā / Noon / Sun is like a pou in the sky – top of the pou

Ahiahi / Afternoon (sun burning like fire/ ahi)

Rehurehutanga o te rā (Sunset/ dimming of the sun / fogginess)

Tōnga o te rā / Sunset

Te Pō / Night

Waenganui pō / Midnight
